A company is eyeing a building on Stafford Street to build a Starbucks with a drive-thru service. Colvest/Stafford Heard Wor LLC, a Springfield-based holding company, looks to construct the coffee shop in a building addressed 105 through 115 Stafford St., where an AFC Urgent Care clinic and a Millbury Federal Credit Union are currently located, according to an application submitted to the city Zoning Board of Appeals. The current building has a 13,013-square-foot print. Based on Colvest’s application, they are looking to open a 2,398-square-foot Starbucks somewhere on the property, according to the application.

A Holden-based developer has purchased a 17.7-acre property on Grafton Street for $4.3 million. Brandt Lane Development LLC purchased the currently undeveloped property at 1029 Grafton St. from Brandt Lane Living Trust, according to a news release from commercial real estate firm NAI Glickman Kovago & Jacobs. "It is believed that the new owner intends to develop the site for multifamily housing," the news release said. The large parcel is across Grafton Street from Roosevelt Elementary School, near South Plaza, where a Stop & Shop and Ollie's Bargain Outlet have done business for a number of years.

Funding grants for 12 specialized housing developments around Massachusetts announced by the Healey administration Wednesday include a Worcester property, 237 Chandler St., tapped to share in the $62 million award. The South Middlesex Opportunity Council, the nonprofit that merged in 2012 with the moribund Martin Luther King Jr. Business Empowerment Center, will share a portion of the Permanent Supportive Housing Grand Award. According to a release issued by the governor’s office, the nonprofit plans to convert a portion of the second floor of its current administrative building into 20 studio units for chronically homeless individuals.

Faced with a deadline and $13,000 short of their fundraising goal, it seemed the Burncoat High School orchestra was not going to be able to make its trip to Washington, D.C., this spring.  But after a flood of last-minute donations, which followed a T&G article highlighting the effort, the orchestra has successfully raised more than enough money to make the trip and play in the 60th anniversary celebration of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, thanks in part to a $10,000 donation from Harr Toyota. Michael Gross, Harr Toyota's owner, said he was motivated to donate after seeing the T&G article about the group’s effort to cover the shortfall.

After more than 700,000 votes and four elimination rounds, with a topping of spirited online debate, I Love Frankie's pizza shop has emerged as the winner of Worcester's Best Pizza contest. The reader-driven contest ended Monday, with I Love Frankie's collecting 60.6% of the 192,728 votes in the final-round matchup against Peppercorn's Grille & Tavern. The Vernon Hill shop's 24-inch New York-style pizzas have a huge following. The contest yielded a total of 708,533 votes, with 192,728 of those coming in the final round. I Love Frankie's collected 116,820 votes to 75,908 for Peppercorn's.
