BASEBALL

Division I

Central 5, Pilgrim 4

Central scored all 5 of its runs in the fourth inning, capped off by Alejandro Almonte's two-RBI single and Wilber Perez Herrera's RBI-double, and then had to hold on for the win over the Patriots. Perez Herrera pitched five innings for the Knights, allowing two runs on one hit while striking out 4 to pick up the win. Pilgrim's one hit was an RBI single by Jack McConnell. Central improves to 3-3 and Pilgrim falls to 4-2.

Hendricken 12, La Salle 5

The Hawks captured this battle of Division I contenders thanks to 13 hits overall and nine runs in the bottom of the second inning. Hendricken handed the Rams their first league defeat of the season which assures that no D-1 team will finish unbeaten in 2023. Pitcher Griffin Crain earned the win and Frank Tillinghast drove in a pair of runs with a double for the Hawks.

Mt. Hope 4, North Kingstown 2

AJ Jones and Ethan Santerre combined to pitch 7 strong innings, allowing only 2 runs on 1 hit while striking out 6, as Mount Hope doubled up on North Kingstown. The Huskies offense was led by Parker Camelo, who was 2-for-3, including a double, and Brad Denson, whose only hit, a triple, drove in two runs.

Cranston East 2, Cumberland 1

John Devine fired a three-hitter and the Thunderbolt offense did just enough in a win over the Clippers. Devine struck out nine while tossing a complete game. Damon Asencio knocked three hits and scored a run while Kelvin Santos finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Cumberland outfielder Brody Enos robs Cranston East of a hit in the 5th inning of Wednesday's game vs. Cranston East.

Coventry 12, Cranston West 3

Tommy Turner and Tyler Reall handled the pitching for the Oakers, and were big parts of the offense, too. Each had a pair of hits, 3 RBI and a home run in the Division I battle against the Falcons. Coventry's Anthony Colucci drove in 3 and Logan Downey drove in 2 to help the cause. Chris Piscione had 2 hits for Cranston West.

Lincoln 2, Toll Gate 1

Ethan Gray went 4 innings in solid relief, allowing no hits and no runs while striking out 3. Starter Sean Clifford allowed just 2 hits and 1 run over three innings for the Lions, which topped the Titans in a well-pitched game with strong defense.

Eastern Independent League

Wheeler 21, Lexington Academy 1

Jack Salzillo had three hits, including a home run, two doubles and he scored four times and Anand Heintz had two doubles reached base four times, drove in four runs, scored four times and stole two bases to lift the Warriors to a win in the EIL.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Division I

Cranston East 3, Hendricken 0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-16.)

Charles Pincince led East with 15 kills, Caleb Xum had 24 assists and Larry Yin had 9 digs in the 'Bolts sweep of the Hawks.

East Greenwich 3, South Kingstown 0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-16). JV - SK, 2-0.

Division III

Central Falls 3, Portsmouth 0 (28-26, 25-18, 25-23). JV - CF, 2-0.

The play of Warriors' trio Jamilson Depina Almeida (12 blocks, 7 kills, 2 aces), Euge Simon (5 blocks, 3 kills) and Chande Nobre Soares (10 assists, 3 aces) proved to be too much for the Patriots. Hayden Krych had 4 kills and 2 aces for Portsmouth in the loss.

Exeter/West Greenwich 3, Scituate 1 (18-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-14).

Jason Matthews' 18 kills paved the way for the Scarlet Knights to upend the Spartans and remain undefeated (3-0) in D-3. Scituate had strong outings from Declan Morrison (19 kills) and Mason Brown (12 kills, 3 aces) in the loss.

North Kingstown 3, Chariho 0 (25-20, 25-13, 27-25). JV - NK, 2-0.

The frontcourt play of Jared Samson and Quinlan Fahy, who combined for 16 kills and 11 blocks, was a big reason why North Kingstown came out on top Chariho. Matt Tiernan and Kody Poplaski had 12 kills and 23 assists, respectively, for the Chargers in the loss.
