Central Ohio High School Sports Awards: Bentley leads Super 12 girls track honorees

For the second consecutive year, Gahanna Lincoln’s Camden Bentley is Captain of ThisWeek’s Super 12 girls track and field team.

Her honor was among dozens announced during the Central Ohio High School Sports Awards on June 15 at the Ohio Theatre. The show was presented by Encova Insurance and in partnership with Nationwide Children’s Hospital Sports Medicine and Raising Cane’s.

School: Hilliard Darby

Year: Sophomore

Hampered by an injury to her left hip flexor, Armstrong still managed to reach the podium at the Division I state meet. She was fourth in the preliminary of the 400 meters in a program-record 56.69 seconds and then finished sixth in 56.88 the next day.

Armstrong also holds the program record in the 100 (12.2) and won OCC-Cardinal Division titles in the 100 (12.35), 200 (25.31) and 400 (57.64). She also won a regional title in the 400 (56.87).

School: Gahanna Lincoln

Year: Junior

Last year’s Super 12 Captain had another brilliant season, winning the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles at the OCC-Ohio meet and sweeping both events throughout the postseason.

Bentley set the official state record in the 100 hurdles when she ran 13.45 in the preliminary and ran a wind-aided 13.25 to win the title. She later won state titles in the 300 hurdles (42.82) and as a member of the 800 relay (1:38.32), leading the Lions to the Division I team championship.

School: Watterson

Year: Junior

After helping the Eagles win their fifth consecutive CCL title, Brady won Division I district and regional titles in the long jump and followed with an eighth-place finish (17 feet, 10 1/2 inches) at state.

Brady also helped the 800 relay win a district title and the 1,600 relay take first at regional. She then helped the 1,600 relay finish seventh (3:58.75) and the 800 relay finish 11th (1:43.24) at state.

School: Dublin Coffman

Year: Sophomore

A Super 12 honoree in girls cross country last fall, Feeney built on that by earning OCC-Central, district and regional championships in the 800 this spring.

She then was fifth at state in the 800 (2:14.07) and helped the 3,200 relay finish 13th (9:36.63). She also was a state qualifier in 2021 in the 800 and on the 3,200 relay.

School: Westerville Central

Year: Junior

Kiluvia finished second in the 100 hurdles (13.77) and long jump (18-11 1/2) at the Division I state meet, helping Central earn its best team finish of second place behind Gahanna.

Kiluvia finished second in the 100 hurdles (14.26) and long jump (17-8) at regional, after placing first in the 100 hurdles (14.52) and fourth in the long jump (17-1) at district. She holds the program record in the 100 hurdles (13.77) and long jump (19-1 1/4).

Jenna Lucas 

School: Watkins Memorial

Year: Senior

One of the area’s top all-around athletes, Lucas was a Super 12 honoree in girls volleyball and a Division I state qualifier in three track events this spring.

Lucas finished third in the shot put (41-3), placed fourth in the long jump (18-1/2) and tied for fourth in the high jump (5-4). She also was a regional qualifier in the 300 hurdles and an LCL-Buckeye champion in the 100.

School: Hilliard Davidson

Year: Senior

This distance specialist was a member of the second-place 3,200 relay (9:14.61) and finished second in the 3,200 (10:35.26) at the Division I state meet.

Mason also finished first in the 3,200 (10:39.66) at regional and first in the 1,600 (5:03.06) and 3,200 (11:04.68) at district. The 3,200 relay won regional (9:17.92) and district (9:24.17) titles.

Olivia Pace 

School: Westerville Central

Year: Sophomore

Pace played a key role behind the Warhawks’ second-place finish at the Division I state meet, placing second in the 100 (11.71) and seventh in the 200 (24.73). She finished first in the 100 (11.84) and 200 (24.73) at regional, and she holds the program record in the 100 (11.71).

Central (31) finished second at state behind Gahanna (47) and second (50) at regional behind Gahanna (73).

Chayla Rankin

School: Olentangy

Year: Freshman

Rankin shined in every event in which she competed for the Braves, highlighted by a 14th-place finish in the high jump (5-2) at the Division I state meet.

She won regional (5-7) and district (5-2) titles in the high jump and set a meet record (5-7) to win an OCC-Cardinal championship. She also was 10th in the 100 hurdles (15.88) at regional.

School: Westerville South

Year: Junior

Competing in her second Division I state meet, Saunders finished fourth in the 100 hurdles (14.03) and seventh in the 300 hurdles (45.24). At regional, she was third in the 100 hurdles (14.28) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (44.95).

Saunders was named to the Super 12 team last season after winning the state title in the 100 hurdles (program-record 14.05) and finishing eighth in the 300 hurdles (46.71).

Sydnie Smith

School: Bexley

Year: Junior

Smith, a two-time Super 12 honoree, finished sixth in the Division I state meet in the shot put, breaking her own program record with a 40-9 3/4.

She also holds the program record in the discus, throwing 152-11 at regional. She won MSL-Ohio, district and regional titles in the discus, but fouled on all three attempts at state.

As a sophomore, she was state runner-up in the discus (131-10).

Ayanna Stafford 

School: Gahanna Lincoln

Year: Junior

The OCC-Ohio champion in the 200, Stafford helped the Lions capture their third Division I state championship.

At state, Stafford finished third in the 100 (11.8) and ran on the first-place 800 relay (1:38.32) and runner-up 400 relay (47.91). She also was district champion in the 100 and 200 and a state qualifier in the 200.
