The nominations for The Dispatch's Student of the Week initiative are in, and now it's time for you to pick the best of the best.

Voting is open until noon Thursday, Feb. 8.

Last week's winner: Olentangy Liberty's Natalie Gray named Dispatch Student of the Week

Participating high school principals, teachers and guidance counselors nominated students they say have shown outstanding academic and school achievement and community service.

We will announce the winner and runner-up on Friday.

And the nominees for Feb. 5 are ...

Here are this week's nominees and what was said about them:

Madysen Adkins-Smith, Westerville North: “Madysen is a student athlete at North. She plays varsity basketball, works part-time at Target and is the president/co-founder of North's Black Scholar Alliance. Madysen has a 3.7 GPA. She will attend Ohio University in the fall.”

Anna Carey, Columbus School for Girls: “Anna is a leader in all facets of our school community. Currently, she is the lead in our school's musical production of ‘Into the Woods’ and president of our chapter of the International Thespian Society. Her acting and academic prowess are also on display as she participates on our school's Mock Trial Team (and just last weekend led our squad to regionals while winning a Best Attorney and Best Witness award at the district competitions). Anna is also a member of our school's Grace Notes select choir, a varsity volleyball player and a National Merit Semifinalist. She all around embodies our school's motto of ‘strength and grace.’ “

Kinsey Duzan, Northridge: Member of Northridge O.M.U.N. Team member of Centerburg Youth Shooting Sports. 2024 Sub-Junior ATA All-American Team. Two-time OSTA All-Ohio Team. Participates in American Trap, Bunker Trap (also called International Trap or Olympic Trap), American Skeet and Sporting Clays at the local, state, and national levels. Member of Licking County 4H. Member of the Hartford Jr. Fair Board. ATA 2024 All American Trap shooting Team. Sub Jr. Division All American Team. Member of I.O.R.G.

Rebecca Fekru, DeSales: “Rebecca was awarded a full scholarship to Boston University through QuestBridge National College Match program. Rebecca currently holds an executive officer position for the following DeSales clubs: World Culture’s Club (president), S.O.B.E. (vice president), Junior State of America (vice president) and Student Council (senior class vice president). Outside of school, Rebecca enjoys being a teacher for her church’s children’s ministry.”

Peyton Ford, Circleville: “She is senior this year and is president of Key Club. In this role she is responsible for running our Red Cross Blood drives.  She does an excellent job organizing and involving our student body in these events.”

Jeevan Konduru, Big Walnut: “Jeevan is not only a polite and amazing young man, but he is academic, ambitious and driven while being well respected by his peers and the staff.”

Ella Martin, Licking Heights: “Ella is an academically well-rounded student with a cumulative GPA of 3.79 Ella is a cheerleader, the editor for the yearbook and is a member of National Honor Society.”

Lauren Meier, Newark Catholic: “Lauren Meier is a dynamic student with a 4.0 grade-point average and shares her talents among her school community in numerous ways. She is always sought after to provide compelling speeches, and her stage presence is spectacular. Most recently, you could find her playing the role of Morticia in her high school's production of ‘The Addams Family,’ where she wowed the audience with her vocal skills and acting abilities. She is a member of Kairos, Key Club, Student Council, National Honor Society and Liturgical Choir and dances with Irwin Academy of Irish Dance and next year plans to attend a liberal arts college to major in history.”

Eva Walton, Groveport Madison: “Eva is a leader at GMHS. She is one of the primary overseers for the Groveport Madison DECA Marketing & Logistics program. She is a four-year varsity soccer player. She is a four-year varsity track and field athlete. Eva is on the National Honor Society. Miss Walton is also part of the National Technical Honor Society. She is a member of the GMHS Key Club. She is also on the yearbook committee. For all of the reasons listed above, she deserves to be recognized for this honor representing Groveport Madison High School.”

Luke Wilson, London: “He is currently taking classes full-time at Ohio State through the Ohio State Academy Program. He is participating in an internship at WCBE, an NPR member station through the John Glenn High School Internship Program. He also served as a delegate for Buckeye Boys State.”

Madelyn Zimmerman, North Union: “We are so proud of the many accomplishments Madelyn has earned throughout her career as a student at North Union High School. Madelyn was recently honored by Rep. Jim Jordan for her appointment to the United States Military Academy.  In addition to this great news, Madelyn is involved in leadership roles in our athletic and academic programs. Madelyn is a model student and citizen who will no doubt have a major impact with any future endeavor she pursues.”
