Central Point teen drowns in Applegate Lake
Jul. 22—A teenager drowned in Applegate Lake Thursday night after jumping into the lake off the dam, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office reported Friday.
A group of male teenagers had been jumping into the lake off the dam, JCSO reported. One of them, a 16-year-old from Central Point, jumped into the water and did not return to the surface. The other youths attempted to find the boy, who was not named, and contacted 911 at 8:33 p.m.
Applegate Fire District No. 9 responded, along with JCSO patrol deputies and marine units. Deputies searched the area Thursday until darkness forced them to suspended the search after a few hours.
Deputies located the boy in the lake at 9:24 a.m. Friday.
