Centralia VFW awarded Platinum Star Donor status

Aug. 21—The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) National Home has awarded VFW Post 2200 in Centralia the honor of being named a Platinum Star Donor for 2022 and 2023, according to a letter from the VFW National Home.

"Donations from organizations like VFW Post 2200 are a tremendous help to the military and veteran families we serve," VFW National Home Development Director Sue Alverson wrote in the letter. "We hope you display the enclosed plaque proudly."

Being named a Platinum Star Donor means a VFW post has donated $5,000 or more to the VFW National Home and is at the highest honor donor level. The other levels are Gold Star Donors, who give between $2,000 and $4,999, Silver Star Donors, who give between $1,000 and $1,999, and Bronze Star Donors, who give between $500 and $999.

Officially founded in 1925, the VFW National Home was opened as a place where families left behind after World War I could form a community and keep the family circle intact even if a family's service member didn't make it home, according to the nonprofit's website.

It was founded by Amy Ross, a 23-year-old who, in 1922, began assisting thousands of unemployed veterans find work in Detroit.

Today, the nationwide nonprofit helps veterans with reintegration back into civilian life by offering resources for housing, education, child care, recreation and Department of Veterans Affairs claim case management.
