Centre County gets new Dunkin’, Pizza Hut moves and more business news from October

Several businesses opened their doors in Centre County this month while others revealed “coming soon” plans.

Here’s a look at business news that you may have missed, and that you’ll want to be on the lookout for in the coming months.

Now open

  • Tasty K, a Korean fried chicken restaurant owned by a Penn State alum, opened Oct. 13 at 325 E. Calder Way in downtown State College.

  • Dunkin’ is now open in Centre Hall. The 479 S. Pennsylvania Ave. location is a 1,600 square-foot restaurant with a drive-thru. It officially opened Sept. 25 and will employ about 30 people, according to a spokesperson. It’s open daily from 5 a.m.-9 p.m.

  • Pizza Hut made a move to the Hills Plaza, next to Jersey Mike’s, on Oct. 10. The restaurant had previously been located at 760 S. Atherton St., and at the new location, it offers only delivery and carryout options.

  • Olde Village Mercantile Co. held its grand opening this month at 144 W. Aaron Square in Aaronsburg. The gift shop is open 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday-Friday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

  • B&B Diagnostics launched its mobile services in Centre and Clearfield counties. The company offers blood and specimen testing, and bookings can be made at bbdiagnostics.io or by calling 814-201-1411.

  • The Scalp-Micropigmentation Clinic of Centre County is now open at 3941A S. Atherton St. in State College. Owner and operator Zach Eastman was trained and licensed for the scalp-micropigmentation procedure in Canada by the educators of Scalp2Ink. For more information, visit www.smpccc.com.

In the works

  • Pizza Mia owner John Jennings announced he plans to open a new State College location inside the ōLiv State College high-rise in fall of 2024. Pizza Mia, which has a Bellefonte restaurant, was in the same spot in downtown State College until the building was sold for construction of the high-rise.

  • Big Chicken, a restaurant chain started by Shaquille O’Neal, plans to open a State College location. The Sidhu family, including members Harsimrat, Shubreet, Samarjit and Pukhraj, plans to open Big Chicken locations across the state, including the Lehigh Valley and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton areas. Where and when the State College location would open has not been released.

  • Hotworx, a fitness chain that offers infrared sauna workouts, plans to open early next year at Hills Plaza.

Temporarily closed

  • A Geisinger urgent care clinic in Bellefonte was temporarily closed earlier this month due to staffing limitations. As of Thursday, the clinic at 174 Buckaroo Lane remains closed.

  • The Waffle Shop on East College Avenue in State College closed after a fire on Oct. 10. Owner Duane Reese said they hope to be back open as soon as possible and urged patrons to visit the Bellefonte location at 127 W. Bishop St.
