Ceramics artist to open at Harvery Gallery

The Juanita Harvey Art Gallery will kick off the spring semester Friday with an exhibition by artist Eliza Au.

Au works in clay using digital fabrication techniques. Originally from Vancouver, Canada, Au is currently assistant professor of ceramics at the University of North Texas. In 2020, she received an Award of Excellence during the Chrysalis Competition held by the James Renwick Alliance.

Her work is in several permanent collections including the Everson Museum of Art and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and has been displayed nationally and internationally, including exhibitions at the Appalachian Center for Craft, Smithville, Tennessee; the Taiwan Ceramic Biennale, New Tapei City, Taiwan; and the Korean International Ceramic Biennale, Icheon, Korea.

Au has attended residencies at the European Ceramic Work Center in Hertogenbosch, Netherlands; the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts, Helena, Montana; Greenwich House Pottery in New York City; and in 2022 received a McKnight Artist Fellowship to attend a residency at the Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She earned her MFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University and her BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.

A reception will be held from 6-8 p.m. Feb. 3, in the gallery. The exhibition will be on display through Feb. 17. Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m.
