Ceremony Held in Bucha for Dead Pilot Who Defended Kyiv

Several hundred people gathered in Bucha, Ukraine, on October 3 for a ceremony to honor a Ukrainian military pilot who defended the Kyiv region against Russian attacks before he died in June, Suspilne reported.

The mayor of Bucha, Anatoly Fedoruk, said Matyushenko Mikhail Yuriyovich, a colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who was from Bucha, headed the 40th brigade of tactical aviation, locally known as the “Ghosts of Kyiv.”

Colonel-General Serhiy Drozdov said he died in battle along with his crew over the Black Sea in June after their plane was hit by an anti-aircraft missile complex of the Russian army, Suspilne reported.

Fedoruk said a long search was carried out to find the deceased pilot’s body. His wife said his body was found in Bulgaria in early September, Suspilne reported.
