Ceres man fatally struck by SUV while crossing Whitmore Avenue

A 64-year-old Ceres man was fatally struck by a vehicle while walking across Whitmore Avenue Monday night, according to the Ceres Police Department.

The man, identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as Ricardo Meza, was walking north across Whitmore at Rose Avenue shortly before 9 p.m. He was hit by a westbound 2007 Chevy Tahoe just before reaching the north side of the street, according to Ceres Police.

Meza, who suffered major head trauma as a result of the collision, was taken to Doctors Medical Center, where he died a short time later. According to public records, Meza lived about seven blocks from the scene of the collision.

The driver of the Tahoe, whose name was not released by Ceres Police, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators on the Department’s Traffic Unit Major Accident Investigation Team.

Drugs are and/or alcohol are not suspected factors in the crash.
