'Certify the results!' -activists to MI lawmaker
Trump's meeting with Michigan Republicans appears to be the latest attempt by the president and the GOP to subvert the results of the 2020 election, calling on state legislators to rescind their certification votes.
At the airport, some protesters held signs that read "SHAME" while others chanted "respect Michigan voters." One protester asked, "What has Trump promised you?"
Trump's meeting with Michigan's state legislative leaders, Shirkey and House of Representatives Speaker Lee Chatfield, is not an "advocacy meeting" and will not include campaign officials, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said, without providing further details of the meeting agenda.
The two lawmakers will listen to what the president, who requested the meeting, has to say, the source said. Shirkey told a Michigan news outlet earlier this week that the legislature would not appoint a second slate of electors.
