Cessna aircraft lands wheels up on runway at Chatham Airport, officials say

A Cessna aircraft landed wheels up on a runway at Chatham Airport on Sunday, which led to temporary closure of the runway, officials said.

No injuries were reported following the incident at approximately 10:07 a.m.

A Cessna 182-RG tried to land on Runway 24 and suffered a hard landing, according to the Chatham Airport Commission. The pilot and passenger exited the airplane and did not seek medical attention.

The airport closed the runway to safely remove the aircraft, officials said. Runway 24 reopened nearly two hours later, at 11:57 a.m.

The Airport Manager notified the Federal Aviation Administration about the incident. The federal agency is investigating.
