Chad Doerman, charged in sons' triple murder, previously accused of choking his father

Chad Doerman, the 32-year-old Clermont County father charged with executing his three young sons, previously faced a domestic violence charge for allegedly choking his father in 2010, according to court records.

The case ultimately was dismissed, apparently after the alleged victim – identified as Keith Doerman, Chad Doerman's father – failed to appear as a prosecution witness.

The elder Doerman was 46 at the time the charges were filed in July 2010. Chad Doerman pleaded not guilty to domestic violence on July 26, 2010, docket filings show. The case was dismissed Aug. 26 of that year.

Ohio man Chad Doerman charged in Clermont County triple murder

Clermont County prosecutors have charged Chad Doerman with three counts of aggravated murder after they say he lined his children up to shoot them each with his rifle. One of the boys had tried to run away, fleeing toward a field near the family's Monroe Township home. David Gast, who heads the Clermont County Prosecutor’s Office criminal division, said during a Friday arraignment that Doerman "hunted" down the fleeing boy and brought him back to the house, where he was fatally shot.

Court records indicate that Chad Doerman otherwise had about a dozen entries in the Clermont County court system. Most were for traffic violations, such as driving without a seatbelt or operating a vehicle unsafely, the most recent such charge being in 2022.
