SOUTH BEND — Adams boys basketball coach Chad Johnston is expected to be back on the bench when his Eagles open 4A sectional play Tuesday vs. Michigan City at LaPorte. Tipoff is 6:30 p.m. (EST).

Johnston, a veteran coach in his sixth year at Adams, had been on administrative leave since Feb. 16 following an alleged off-court altercation with a player after a game at New Prairie Feb. 10, according to sources. The South Bend Community School Corp., along with the Department of Child Services, conducted an investigation of the incident and confirmed Johnston's reinstatement Tuesday.

Johnston missed the team's final two regular season games against South Bend Riley and Merrillville during his leave. Brady Bechtel, a former Goshen standout and Adams assistant, coached the Eagles to a 1-1 mark with a win over the Pirates during his interim duties.

The Eagles (8-13) look to defend their LaPorte Sectional title after making it to last year's regional semifinals where they lost to No. 1 Chesterton. In the nightcap Tuesday Plymouth (8-12) takes on Mishawaka (16-5) for a spot in Friday's semifinals.
