Chad King named Long Branch head football coach, succeeds Dan George

The Long Branch High School football program has its successor to the legendary Dan George.

Chad King, an assistant coach in recent seasons, was named the Green Wave's head coach Wednesday night by the Long Branch Board of Education, athletic director Jason Corley tweeted Thursday morning.

King, who was the team's defensive coordinator last season, succeeds George, who retired after the 2021 season. George was the head coach at his alma mater the last 23 seasons.

Under George, Long Branch won 152 games, three NJSIAA sectional championships, a South Group IV regional title in 2018 and seven Shore Conference divisional titles.

George had retired as the Green Wave's wrestling coach after the 2021 season. His nephew Billy George is now coaching that team.
