This chain restaurant in old Marie Callender’s in Fresno now open. What’s on menu?
After nearly three years of sitting empty, the former Marie Callender’s restaurant on Blackstone Avenue finally has new life.
California Fish Grill is open.
After a series of VIP events over the weekend, the chain restaurant opened to the public in the Universal Park Shopping Center, in front of Sam’s Club and between Nees and Alluvial avenues.
It’s a sustainably sourced seafood restaurant based in California. Its Visalia location opened in 2020.
Both Marie Callender’s locations in Fresno closed abruptly in 2019 after the company filed for bankruptcy. The location at Cedar and Shaw reopened under a new ownership group.
California Fish Grill took over the Blackstone Marie Callender’s — but only part of it.
The remaining space is being turned a LensCrafters.
What is California Fish Grill?
The Southern California-based restaurant has about 50 locations. Most are in California, with a few in Las Vegas and the Phoenix area.
The restaurant touts its “responsibly sourced” seafood. It sells wild-caught and farm-raised seafood that is rated “best choice” or “good alternative” by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program or is eco-certified by a third party.
The large menu features a variety of grilled fish served over rice, including salmon, tilapia, shrimp and delta catfish.
It also has fried fish, including fried catfish and fish and chips.
Some of its dishes are “petite plates” with smaller portions starting at $9.99.
Bowls are on the menu too, including a poke bowl, and keto and paleo bowls. Other food options include salads, fish tacos and sandwiches.
It also has four plant-based options, including “shrimp” and an “ahi” poke bowl.
Beer and wine are also on the menu.
Details: California Fish Grill is at 7825 N. Blackstone Ave. It’s open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays through Wednesdays, and until 9:30 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays.
