Chalk It Up, Foodieland and more: 5 Sacramento Labor Day weekend events and festivals

Labor Day is here and the Sacramento area is celebrating the long weekend with events and festivals.

If you and your loved ones are still debating on what to do, here are some options:

Chalk It Up Festival

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday to Monday at Fremont Park, 1515 Q St.

Chalk It Up returns to Sacramento for the 33rd year bringing chalk art and music to midtown’s Fremont Park.

The free event takes up the 15th and 16th streets where artists decorate sidewalks with chalk art murals, according to the festival website. They begin working on their artwork Saturday morning and continue to the end of the three-day weekend.

At the festival, you’ll find live local entertainment, spaces to picnic, food trucks and vendors. Kids can also pick up free chalk and draw within the park.

Foodieland

4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday to Sunday at Cal Expo, 1600 Exposition Blvd.

Foodieland returns to Cal Expo with more than 175 vendors offering multi-cultural foods, games, arts and crafts, according to its website.

Attendees will find booths selling street tacos, banana pudding, pupusas, yakitori and more.

Tickets are $5 online and there won’t be tickets sold at the door.

There are rules to the venue, which include bag inspections and no backpacks. Clear backs that are under 12 x 12 inches are only allowed. You should check Cal Expo’s venue rules before going.

Sacramento Rainbow Festival

11 a.m., Sunday at the intersection of K and 20th streets

The Sacramento Rainbow Festival is in its 35th year, fundraising for charities and celebrating the LGBTQ+ community in the region. The annual street festival will feature musical acts, vendors, a drag story hour and food trucks, according to its website.

This year’s headlining talents include Nick Osin, DJ Tatiana and David Hernandez.

General admission is $20 and you can get tickets online.

California Taco Festival

11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Sacramento, 3317 Forty Mile Road, Wheatland

Vendors are serving up unique variations of the taco at the California Taco Festival in Wheatland. You can pair your tacos with micheladas, beer and live music and entertainment, according to its Eventbrite page.

There’s also a taco eating contest, car show, a cornhole tournament, vendors and community educational booths.

Tickets start at $25. Kids 10 to 18 years old are $13 and those under 10 are free.

Davis Labor Day Run

8 a.m. Monday at 401 2nd St., Davis

Take a run or walk at the 25th Annual Davis Labor Day Race. There are four options for the race, according to the event website.

You can choose to run a 10K at 8 a.m., 5K at 8:05 a.m., one mile at 8:10 a.m. or a kid’s half-mile fun run at 9:30 a.m.

Proceeds to the event go to the non-profit Cancer Champions, which helps those recovering or undergoing cancer treatment, according to organizers.

Prices range depending on which run you choose. The 5k and 10k are $43, the one-mile run is $38 and the kid’s fun run is $15.
