Chambersburg Borough Council seeks appointee to fill seat of late member Larry Hensley

Chambersburg Borough Council is looking for someone to serve through the rest of the year in the seat held by a councilmember who recently passed away.

Fourth Ward representative Larry Hensley, 72, died unexpectedly on May 17. A Republican, he was elected to a four-year term in 2021.

Council will appoint a person to fill his seat on June 26.

Hensley's term would have ended in December 2025. A candidate will be elected this November to serve out the rest of his term beginning in January.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, a registered voter, and a legal resident of the Fourth Ward for at least one year.

The Fourth Ward is generally the northwest corner of the borough. The polling places are First Lutheran Church on West Washington Street and Presbyterian Church of the Falling Spring on North Main Street. See a ward map a chambersburgpa.gov.

The deadline for submission is 4 p.m. Thursday, June 22.

More about Larry Hensley

Hensley, 72, died in the emergency room at Chambersburg Hospital.

He was a military veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in San Antonio, Texas, with the medical unit's burn unit.

He worked as a medical technologist and microbiologist at various locations on the East Coast. While working at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, he ran the blood bank.

He was a member of South Mountain Bible Church in Fayetteville. He enjoyed hunting and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sondra, as well as three children, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
