Chaminade-Madonna defensive lineman Jamaal Johnson commits to UCF

Chaminade-Madonna defensive lineman Jamaal Johnson will stay in Florida for college.

The Lions’ rising senior standout committed to UCF on Friday, announcing his commitment on his Twitter account.

“Excited to join the Gus bus,” Johnson said on Twitter, referring to new UCF coach Gus Malzahn.

Johnson, a former Miami Hurricanes commit, chose UCF over offers from Boston College, Georgia Tech and USF, among others. Johnson was an early member of the Hurricanes’ class, committing to Miami on July 23, 2020. However, Johnson backed off his commitment on March 10.

Johnson is rated a three-star prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings. He is listed as the No. 113 defensive lineman and No. 802 player in the class.

Johnson starred for Chaminade as a junior. He racked up 54 tackles and a team-leading 13 sacks as the Lions reached the Class 3A title game. He was a Sun Sentinel first-team All-County selection.

Johnson is the first Broward or Palm Beach county player to join UCF’s 2022 recruiting class.
