Champaign County circuit clerk sets amnesty period for court fines next month

Sep. 26—URBANA — The Champaign County Circuit Clerk's Office will allow people with certain fines to be able to pay them without late or collection fees for a portion of next month.

The reprieve runs from Oct. 16 through 27 and applies to those folks with a balance due on criminal, traffic, DUI, ordinance violation or conservation violation offenses.

It does not apply to fines and costs already paid or tax refunds which have been applied to debts.

Individuals who wish to participate may ask for their balances by sending an e-mail to cccircuitclerk@co.champaign.il.us. It must include the individual's name with middle initial, address, phone number, email address, and case number, which can be looked up on the circuit clerk's website, champaigncircuitclerk.org.

Go to the "View Court Case Information" tab and fill in a name in the "Search by Participant Name" box.

Payments can be made in person at the clerk's office in the courthouse, 101 E. Main St., U, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., including over the lunch hour, during that two-week period. Payees should bring their quotes and a current driver's license or state identification card. Payments can be made with cash, cashier's check, credit card or debit card but not a personal check.

Payments can also be made online at champaigncircuit clerk.org using the reference numbers received in the quotes to make sure the payments are accurately applied.

Anyone with questions may call 217-384-3725 or send an email to cccircuitclerk@ co.champaign.il.us.
