Chandler Jones upset about contract, requests trade from Cardinals

All-Pro pass rusher Chandler Jones requested a trade from the Arizona Cardinals this offseason, per sources. Jones has been unhappy with his contract and future with the team. Cardinals don’t want to trade him and expect him to report to camp. But certainly a situation to watch.

The Arizona Cardinals have an issue as training camp is about to open. One of their stars is unhappy.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, pass rusher Chandler Jones has requested a trade from the team, as he is displeased with his contract status. He enters the final year if his contract with Arizona and seeks an extension.
Jones did not participate in mandatory minicamp last month.
He is coming off a season in which he had only one sack and played only five games. He tore his biceps and was on injured reserve the rest of the season.
He had a career-high and franchise record 19 sacks in 2019.
He is 31 years old. His contract was team-friendly back when he signed it and now is due $15.5 million in salary. None of it is guaranteed.
Fowler reports the Cardinals do not want to trade him. He is a critical piece to their defense entering the 2021 season.
He is the second veteran player to request a trade this offseason. Linebacker Jorda Hicks also wants out after the team used its first-round pick in the draft to select Zaven Collins, who will replace Hicks in the starting lineup.
Veterans report to training camp Tuesday. Not reporting would cost Jones $50,000 per day he is absent.
This is a tough way for the team to start training camp.
