Change for the good as Prairie Central nets IPC win

FAIRBURY — Changes, no matter how subtle or obvious, can make a huge difference. Prairie Central made some changes and the Hawks were able to outlast Tolono (Unity) 15-25, 25-21, 25-19 in an Illini Prairie Conference volleyball match Tuesday at PCHS.

“We changed things up a lot for tonight’s match and the girls did a great job at rolling with it,” PC head coach Kirsten Smith said. “We played scrappy and helped each other when we needed to.

“The girls played a real hard match and came out with the win.”

Some things didn't change as Kerigan Fehr led the Prairie Central offense with 10 kills and Gracie Edelman collected 14 assists. Alexandria Hari served up 12 points, including 2 aces.

Sawyer Ashman made 2 blocks and Carley Chambers had 22 digs.

Tolono won the preliminary matches 25-16, 25-20 in the sophomore contest and 25-11, 23-25, 15-7 in the freshman match.

PTHS-St. Thomas More

CHAMPAIGN — Pontiac ran into trouble with host St. Thomas More as the host Sabers slashed the Indians 25-15, 15-7 in an Illini Prairie Conference volleyball match Tuesday.

Pontiac's offense was stymied by the STM defense as the Tribe managed just fivve kills for the match. Bailey Masching had 2 kills to lead PTHS (6-14). Alix Robinson, Cadence Helms and Keara Smith each had 1 kills. Smith also had 3 assists.

Masching led the defense with 6 digs and Aubrey Shepard had 5 digs.

Pontiac took the junior varsity match 25-15, 18-25, 15-11.

Flanagan-Cornell-Ridgeview

FLANAGAN — Flanagan-Cornell had little trouble with Ridgeview as the Falcons posted a 25-13, 25-16 Heart of Illinois Conference victory Tuesday.

Kortney Harms had 8 kills and 3 assists to pace Flanagan-Cornell (13-14). Raegan Montello had 8 assists and Kalynne Kindermann had 4 digs.

Ridgeview won the sophomore match 25-12, 25-20. The Falcons won the freshman match 25-15, 25-16

Lexington-GCMS

LEXINGTON — Although Lexington was pushed, the Minutemen were able to turn Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley away in two sets in Heart of Illinois Conference play Tuesday. LHS won 25-21, 25-23 at The Fort.

Avery Poppe had 8 kills and 1 block at the net for the Minutemen (10-8, 4-5). Mary Doll had 9 assists and Emma Bennett had 6 assists. Makayla Ziegler led the servers with 10 points, including 2 aces. Vivian Wright also had 2 aces and Poppe serve 1 ace.

Poppe added to her defensive play with 20 digs. Wright, Issy Bennett and Emma bennett had 10 digs apiece.

Lexington claimed the sophomore match 25-18, 25-20 and the freshmen won 25-15 in a sweep of the Falcons.
