Change can be a good thing. Check out all the change at the Carlsbad Public Library

Change is hard but it is one of the few constants in life. If you have been by the library recently you might have noticed some change. 2024 has been filled with many new things and there will be more changes. While, change may be hard we know that there is a lot of good things happening in our community and more so the library.

I want to welcome Mayor Lopez and our new council members. Thank you for dedication and support to our City. We need people willing to listen to the public and help run our city. While changes are on the horizon we trust they are all for the better. Know the library is here to support the public and our community.

If you have driven by the library lately you probably noticed there is a lot going on outside. Next to Fox Street they have started construction on the final phase of the Halagueño Art Park. This will be the History Garden. When this phase is finished there will be benches, a wall featuring several busts of local people who had an impact on Carlsbad. One is set to be of Charles B. Eddy who was responsible for the library and the park. He donated the land and was a huge part of the founding of our city. Wren Prather Stroud will be the artist creating the busts. She has several pieces out in the park. My favorite is the reader statue. We are excited to see the completion of this phase of the park. Plus you might have noticed that we have added several new art pieces in the park at the end of the year.

The back parking lot is also blocked off. We are getting ready to start a roof project. The library has received funding for a new roof. I am so excited to get this project started. Books and water do not mix well together. This project should start in February and could take a few weeks or more to complete. This will take some of our parking. We have already moved our blue donation bin from the back parking lot. We are still taking donations. We just ask that you bring them inside to us. We might move the location of the outdoor book drop. If we do this we will make sure to let you know. Your accessibility is a top priority.

We even have some construction going on inside. We have been working on creating a meeting room. The walls have been built. But the space is not ready for the public just yet. We are working on finishing touches and getting technology and furniture added to the space. We are excited for this project to come to life and will plan a ribbon cutting ceremony when it is ready for the public to use.

Another change that might impact you is my column will now be published in the Sunday print edition only. I wanted to make sure that you knew so you would not miss any of my content. So if you do not see it on Tuesday know to look in the paper on Sunday. I will still be writing and updating you weekly. Make sure you pick up the paper to see what’s going on at your library.
