Changes at Chardon schools after principal accused of changing grades: I-Team

CHARDON, Ohio (WJW) – Chardon Local School District officials say in light of the recent allegation of grade changing by the former high school principal, a new program will be implemented to help prevent a similar incident from happening.

According to a press release issued Thursday, school officials say they are implementing a software monitoring system that alerts school district personnel of any data changes.

“We take seriously any action that compromises the integrity of student grades and will continue to research opportunities to further strengthen our data systems,” the release states.

The FOX 8 I-Team reported Wednesday that former Chardon High School Principal Doug Murray resigned last week after an internal investigation about changing the grades of students.

District officials say the incident involves the “unauthorized change of two grades, involving two students by former Chardon High School Principal, Doug Murray. “

According to the district’s press release, the internal investigation “determined that the allegations are likely true.”

“We are reviewing the affected students’ grades to ensure they reflect the students’ actual performance,” the press release stated.

Chardon Police are also investigating the matter.

Geauga County Prosecutor Jim Flaiz told the FOX 8 I-Team no charges have been filed and he does not know how long the investigation will take.
