Changes coming to comics, including bringing back old strips and introducing new ones

The comics pages in Treasure Coast Newspapers are being reinvigorated.

After surveying and listening to loyal print readers, the Indian River Press Journal, St. Lucie News Tribune and Stuart News are modernizing current layouts and comic strips offered.

Many fan favorites readers have grown to love throughout the years are continuing seven days a week, such as Peanuts, Garfield, Dennis the Menace, Blondie, Frank and Ernest and more.

We are also bringing back some popular comics we used to publish and offering new ones.

Longtime subscribers may remember Crankshaft and Non Sequitur, which are returning seven days a week after a hiatus. Mother Goose & Grimm is returning Monday-Saturday.

Readers will find new comics, including Pickles, Luann, Baldo, Pearls Before Swine and more. (See the bottom of this column for a full list.)

Comics will continue in full color seven days a week. Readers will see 28 comics Monday-Saturday and 23 comics on Sunday. This is only one fewer comic strip currently published each day.

Subscribers can access the comics — and all daily newspaper pages — in their original formats and page placements through the eNewspaper, which is a digital replica of the printed newspaper. Visit user.tcpalm.com/user/enewspaper to access the eNewspaper.

Additional digital comic strips can be found at www.tcpalm.com/comics.

Although we are replacing some older comics with newer ones, many still can be found on our digital comics page, such as Hi and Lois, Rhymes with Orange, Carpe Diem and more. More than half of the Monday-Saturday comics being replaced are found on the digital comics page.

Subscribers also have digital access to other comics we don't publish, such as The Amazing Spiderman, Between Friends, Flash Gordon, Popeye’s Cartoon Club and more.

These changes, which are starting Oct. 2, will be standardized across the more than 200 USA TODAY Network newspapers throughout the country. This effort is part of an ongoing evaluation of all syndicated content offered to print readers.

Like all content, comics have historically evolved to reflect the culture and tastes of the times.

These changes will not impact subscription rates. We hope you enjoy the new comics offerings.
