Changes will limit free metered parking hours in Sacramento

The Sacramento City Council voted Tuesday to repeal a measure taken during the pandemic in March of 2020 that allowed for free metered parking after 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends. The city will revert back to pre-pandemic times for parking. "It's been 18 months, and we want people to understand the rules are changing back so they don't get a parking citation," said Parking Services Manager Matt Eierman. Eierman said the city will gradually phase in the change, with the city fully restoring parking management operations by Jan. 3, 2022.
