Changes take place in Quincy village leadership

Quincy village president Nick Loomis moved out of the area, leaving a vacancy in the village council.

President pro-tem Mike Hagaman moved into the presidency and the council appointed trustee Andrew Craig to be second in command.

Five applicants threw their names into the hat as the next village trustee — Bryan Lah, Greg Richer, Aubrie Rabideay, Jennifer Burleson and Shareen Nayback.

On Tuesday, Lah, Richer and Rabideay were present and addressed the council. Lah was selected to complete Loomis’ term.

To have five trustee applicants is highly unusual, said Brittany Butler, village manager. She thanked everyone for their interest and asked that all run in upcoming elections.

Additional news from the meeting:

  • The council approved a special use permit and an additional four-month extension to MBD Ventures working toward brining in a cannabis provisioning center and retail shop to what is now Quincy Colllision at 133 W. Chicago St. The building would require extensive remodeling and the auto body repair shop, owned by Brock Badders, would move to a new location. The additional four-month extension allows Badders time to move to the new location.

  • Market 1858 will get another finishing touch. Council members approved a bid by Two Fellers to install a live-edge bench topper to a stone wall that was designed for seating. The 108 feet of live edge lumber, weather-proofed and installed will be $8,640.
