Who’s changing lives at Charlotte-area K-12 schools? Nominate your education superheroes

Many people help make a school run well: principals, assistant principals, secretaries, teachers, guidance counselors, school resource officers, mentors, bus drivers, crossing guards, parents, volunteers and cafeteria workers, among others.

We want to honor those unsung heroes in the Charlotte area and ask you to tell us who they are. We’re looking for public, charter and private school employees or volunteers in Mecklenburg, Gaston, Lincoln, Catawba, Iredell, Rowan, Cabarrus, Stanly, and Union counties in North Carolina.

The Charlotte Observer is seeking nominations for local education superheroes, people who are making a difference inside and outside of the classroom in K-12 education.

Here’s how it will work

We want you — current and former students, parents, school staffers and residents — to nominate someone who had or is having an impact on you and your educational experience. Maybe it’s an elementary teacher who taught you an important lesson. Or a school resource officer who made an impression on your life. Or the person directing traffic at your school who always has a smile on their face. Whoever it is in your community, we want to hear about them.

To nominate your person, just fill out the form below and tell us why you think they deserve to be named an unsung Superhero in Education.

What comes next

Once we receive submissions, we’ll select nominees from our K-12 school communities to start off the voting.

Then, we want you to vote. You’ll do that through a poll on our website. The top vote-getters will move onto the next round. Look for the voting next week. As we get closer to the final stages, we will write stories or post videos about nominees selected.

We’ll conduct a final poll to pick this year’s winner.

Everyone should be honored

Please understand, we recognize and know that every person who makes lives better for students should be highlighted. Our intention is not to pick favorites or cause any negative feelings among those who may not be selected.

We are hoping this effort showcases individuals who are making a difference in their community and allows us to introduce these superheros to our readers in a fun and engaging way. We look forward to hearing from you!
