Twists And Turns: Life After Uni

I once heard that the only constant thing in life is change.

Life has a knack of putting twists and turns in the unlikeliest of places and you can go from being focused, driven and on a path that you know ends at success to being lost, distracted and at a crossroad.

These times will come often, and when you least expect. What is important is to understand that they are there for a reason and whether it be life teaching you something you might have forgotten or fate forcing you to reconsider, it is important you stay positive during this time.

Being fresh out of university and with a first degree in my hand, my carefully planned path completely disintegrated after a breakup. I used this as a positive and led myself to believe that it had happened for a reason: a path obviously not meant for me. I quickly mastered a new plan, one that felt right, aligned with my career goals and life dreams, but it wasn’t before long that I looked back and noticed that I was far from that path, most certainly having taken a wrong turn on the way.

Now left with a variety of options to choose from, I have found that for the first time in my life, I am without a plan…a purpose. In the space of a few short months, I have experienced change in every aspect of my life: work, family, friends, lifestyle, hobbies, interests, routine, health.

Drastic change, especially when unexpected, can leave you feeling vulnerable, exposed and empty at times. This is the time to look at each aspect of your life, parts you have never taken notice of before, and re-evaluate them.

Realising that what you once considered important is no longer, and that you need to analyse each option you are free to take, will help you grow as a person and become more confident in who you are.

Fate is planting something spectacular just around the corner, all it is waiting for is for you to learn what you need, to love yourself and be confident in where you want to go and to find people who will support you and let go of those who won’t.

All you can do is take note of the silver lining in every situation you come across, regardless of what it is. It is leading you to somewhere and that place is almost always nicer than the original destination.
