Channel 2 Action News honors Jovita Moore by renaming news studio in her honor

Channel 2 Action News has honored our late friend and colleague Jovita Moore with a special tribute in our newsroom and news studio.

On Friday, officials with Channel 2 Action News and Cox Media Group renamed the WSB-TV news studio to the Jovita Moore Memorial News Studio.

A plaque and photo of Jovita are now posted outside the studio to honor her.

Moore died in October 2021 from an aggressive form of brain cancer. She had been with Channel 2 Action News since 1998.

This is the first time in the station’s nearly 70-year history that a studio has been named after anyone.

Moore’s family was on hand for the renaming celebration, as well as the unveiling of a new piece of artwork featuring Moore that now hangs in the Channel 2 Action News newsroom in her memory.

Jovita’s son and daughter, Shelby and Josh Griffith, unveiled the portrait that now looks over the newsroom.

“I’m really glad that her spirit and who she was, was able to touch the lives of so many people here and watching her on the news,” Shelby Griffith said. “She’s made such an impact on what this company stands for and the type of people that come to this company. I’m very thankful for everybody here today and that we’re here together.”

“She was our anchor and now she’s our angel who will always be watching over us,” Cox Media Group’s Marian Pittman said.

“She held us to the highest standard,” said WSB-TV general manager and vice president Ray Carter. “She was bright, intuitive, tough on others and tough on herself. You don’t get to a position like Jovita Moore achieved in this business … without having tenacity. And that is one of the qualities that we will always remember about Jovita.”

In addition to renaming the news studio, Cox Media Group has also established a memorial scholarship fund and internship in honor of Moore.
