Channel 4 has unveiled the cast for its extreme reality show Alone.

The channel behind gripping reality shows like SAS: Who Dares Wins and Hunted is taking things up a notch with a reality format where 'ordinary' citizens are left to survive in the wilderness.

These recruits don't have Bear Grylls or Jason Fox to guide them through north-west Canada's desolate environments — all they have are basic tools and their own survival instincts to get them through the mission.

The rules of Alone are straightforward — 11 strangers are dropped into one of the world's most dangerous environments and the last one of them standing wins the grand prize of £100,000.

Contestants have to film themselves throughout the process, as they battle starvation and loneliness all in their attempts to emerge as the ultimate survivor.

  • Eva (24), an NHS Project Manager

  • Javed (58), Business Coach and Mentor

  • Kian (19), War Studies student

  • Louie, (28), Builder

  • Mike (49), Joiner and master craftsman

  • Naomi (26), Clothing Designer

The youngest contestant, 19-year-old Kian, has promised viewers they won't believe the gruelling realities that the cast must face on Alone.

"I cannot describe how huge and how crazy this challenge is," Kian said. "I could go 30 years on this planet and this would be the most interesting and most amazing thing I ever do and I’m having to grapple with that now at the age of 19. It’s very, very exciting and very, very scary.”

The series is produced by ITV Studios' subunit The Garden — the production team behind the upcoming Squid Game reality competition show on Netflix as well as Channel 5's Natural History Museum: World of Wonder.

Alone begins on Channel 4 on Sunday, August 6 at 9pm.
