Channel 4 has released a set of first-look photos for The Couple Next Door, an upcoming psychological drama starring Outlander's Sam Heughan, Poldark's Eleanor Tomlinson, Harry Potter's Alfred Enoch and Pennyworth's Jessica De Gouw.

The six-part series follows couple Evie (Tomlinson) and Pete (Enoch), who find themselves in a "world of curtain twitching and status anxiety" after moving to a luxurious neighbourhood.

However, it's not long before Evie and Pete befriend alpha traffic cop Danny (Heughan) and his yoga instructor wife Becka (De Gouw), the couple who live next door to them.

The official synopsis concludes: "As time goes on, these two couples get increasingly close to each other and, one fateful night, become sexually entangled in a way that will change their lives forever…"

The Couple Next Door is directed by Dries Vos (Suspect) and written by David Allison (Marcella).

It will premiere on Channel 4 in the UK and be available to watch on STARZ in the US and Canada this autumn, with a specific release date expected to be announced in due course.

Heughan recently reprised his role as fiery highlander Jamie Fraser in the first half of Outlander's seventh season, with the final episode taking Jamie and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) back to where it all began: Scotland.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy about the second batch of episodes, which will arrive sometime next year, executive producer Maril Davis confirmed that fans will see the couple return to Lallybroch.

"We are going to see Lallybroch in at least two time periods with Jamie and Claire potentially and with Brianna and Roger in a different time period," she said.

Davis continued: "To return back to Lallybroch where it all started in so many ways is really exciting, and to see it in different time periods."

Outlander airs on Starz in the US, and streams on Lionsgate+ in the UK.
