Channel 9 gets behind-the-scenes look at voting process in York County
Early voting is in full swing in South Carolina as Election Day nears.
The York County Board of Elections has stayed busy with plenty of people coming in to vote.
Some people prefer to vote in person, while others send in their ballot to be processed by poll workers, as South Carolina offers a absentee ballot option.
To make sure the votes are counted accurately, the board of elections office conducts a series of tests before the big day by placing sample ‘mail in’ ballots in a tabulator.

“Basically, we just press start, and the machine, the device does the rest,” said York Co. board of elections director Alan Helms.
The goal is to make sure the results from the test confirm the correct number of votes Helms has on the master list.
“If it’s off by one, we’re going to stop, examine the test deck, go through the process again, and start it all over,” he said.
Helms said he has full confidence in the equipment.
Early voting closes Saturday for those who did not chose go through the absentee process.
