Chaps, Lady Chaps put away Midwestern State in LSC road games

WICHITA FALLS — Rowan Mackenzie scored 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, leading Lubbock Christian University over Midwestern State 71-61 Thursday night in Lone Star Conference basketball.

It was the second consecutive double-double for Mackenzie, who had 24 points and 10 rebounds Saturday in a 73-69 triumph at Dallas Baptist. The 6-foot-3 junior from Australia had 10 rebounds the game before that the previous Thursday at UT Tyler.

Russell Harrison and Najeeb Muhammad backed Mackenzie with 17 points apiece, and Muhammad had a season-high seven rebounds.

LCU (13-6, 9-4) won its third game in a row. The Chaparrals take on Cameron (4-16, 2-12) at 3 p.m. Saturday in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Jermane Carter and Marquis Davison scored 12 points apiece for Midwestern State (9-11, 6-8), and Carter pulled down 11 rebounds. The Mustangs got 10 points and five assists from Pierre Sanders.

WICHITA FALLS — Grace Foster and Shaylee Stovall scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, and Lubbock Christian University cruised past Midwestern State to stop a two-game losing streak in the Lone Star Conference.

Reese Schumann added seven points and Maci Maddox six for LCU (14-7, 9-4).

The Lady Chaps play at Cameron (10-10, 7-7) at 1 p.m. Saturday, the last of four consecutive road games.

Dyamon Griggs scored 17 points for Midwestern State (5-15, 3-11).

OKLAHOMA CITY — Dylan McDougal scored 18 points, Josh Servantez scored 17 and Wayland Baptist matched its season-high point total in a Sooner Athletic Conference road win at Mid-America Christian.

Wayland (14-6, 9-5) has won four games in a row, its longest win streak of the season. The Pioneers moved within one-half game of the University of North Texas-Dallas (12-6, 10-5) for second place in the SAC after UNT-Dallas lost its game Thursday against Texas Wesleyan.

The Pioneers will try to keep it going when they play Southwestern Christian (9-9, 7-8) at 4 p.m. Saturday in Bethany, Oklahoma.

Other Pioneers in double figures were D'Michael Bellfield with 12 points, Jaxon Recer with 11 and Parrish Hewitt and R.J. Mason with 10 apiece. Reece Spencer and Manny Crump added nine points each.

MACU (8-13, 5-10) got 17 points from Seth Hurd and 11 from Tarrence Gaines.

OKLAHOMA CITY — Jaci Littell and Shy Christopher scored 21 and 20 points, respectively, and Mid-America Christian dealt Wayland Baptist its most lopsided loss in five years.

Jenna Cooper-Jackson scored 16 points for Wayland, but the Flying Queens allowed the most points an opponent has scored against them since a 98-91 loss to No. 12 Central Methodist in the 2019-20 season opener. It was the Queens' widest margin of defeat since a 104-71 setback against No. 5 Oklahoma City in their 2017-18 regular-season finale.

MACU (17-4, 11-4) won its fourth game in a row.

Wayland (12-8, 8-6) takes on Southwestern Christian (10-10, 8-7) at 2 p.m. Saturday in Bethany, Oklahoma.

Kaitlyn Edgemon scored 13 points for the Flying Queens, and Taylor Houston added 11.

SNYDER — Jaden Harris scored 19 points and No. 10 South Plains College took care of business at Western Texas, staying within one game of first place in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference.

Muon Reath added 11 points for South Plains, and Christian Coleman and Malek Abdelgowad were right behind with 10 apiece. The Texans (17-3, 5-1) host the conference leader, No. 2 Odessa College (19-1, 6-0), at 3:45 p.m. Saturday in Levelland.

Nikola Sinik, Kobe Reed and Mason McBride scored 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Western Texas (8-12, 1-5).

SNYDER — Celia Sumbane poured in 20 points and South Plains College stayed perfect in conference play with a road win at Western Texas.

Sumbane added eight rebounds and five steals for South Plains (11-7, 5-0), which has won eight of its past nine games. Daiysha Brown and Vitoria Carvalho were good for eight points apiece.

The Lady Texans host Odessa College (10-6, 3-2) at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Western Texas (5-13, 0-6) got 10 points from Sequoia Carroll. WTC lost its ninth game in a row and scored its fewest points in a game since Feb. 1, 2016, in a 57-22 loss to New Mexico Junior College.
