Chaps top Le Moyne, go unbeaten in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Rowan Mackenzie had 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists to lead Lubbock Christian University past Le Moyne 78-64 Sunday in the Holiday Hoops Classic at South Point Arena.

Aaron Gonzales and Kurt Wegscheider scored 15 points apiece for LCU (7-3), a season high in Wegscheider's case. Wegscheider added six rebounds and three assists, and Gonzales shot 3 of 6 from 3-point range and had five rebounds.

The Chaparrals got 12 points from Monterey graduate Russell Harrison and seven points and eight assists from point guard Najeeb Muhammad, who was playing in his hometown.

LCU finished unbeaten in two games in Vegas and has won six of its past seven. On Saturday, the Chaps sprang a 91-83 upset on No. 4 West Liberty, which was 29-3 last season and an Elite Eight team in the Division II NCAA Tournament the year before.

Jeremiah Washington and Xavier Wilson scored 12 points apiece for Le Moyne (8-6), followed by Zy'Ever Wingfield with 10.

The Chaps now have an 11-day break from games. LCU resumes Lone Star Conference play with home games Dec. 30 against Cameron and New Year's Day against Midwestern State.
