Your Character Matters: Strathmore student caring for others through acts of kindness

STRATHMORE, Calif. (KSEE) – A group discussion at Sunnyside Union Elementary School in Strathmore has eighth graders giving advice to younger students.

Eighth-grader Amerah Ambriz goes to high school next year, but this year she’s been recognized as a student of great character.

“You can rely on her also you can just trust her with anything you have her do. You can count on her to be honest,” says sixth to eighth-grade teacher at Sunnyside Elementary School, Alicia Franco.

Teacher Alicia Franco says it’s clear Amerah cares. One incident stands out from when a student forgot their supplies in class.

“The normal student probably would have said they’re mine or probably not said anything and taken them and she said I’m going to find who this belongs to because I think I have an idea, but if I don’t I’m going to find out,” says Franco.

Amerah says she learned to have great character from her parents.

“I think my parents raised me really good and they tell me the things I need to know in life,” says eighth grader Amerah Ambriz.

She says she makes a point of caring for others, and her longtime friends appreciate it.

“I’m very excited and I’m thankful to have her help me through high school because it is a nervous change so I think it will be easier with her,” says eighth grader, Abrio Gomez.

Amerah says she plans to pursue the engineering pathway in high school, and with her great character, she’s sure to be a success.
