The Chargers are currently sitting at 4-2 at the bye week.

Arguably one of the most significant changes this season is on the sideline with first-year head coach Brandon Staley and his staff.

The system Staley and company implemented has highlighted several talented players, and it’s evident in the team’s statistical production.

Passing yards

QB Justin Herbert: 1,771 yards

Herbert is QB1, so this statistic is no surprise. However, the passing yards are impressive for the former Oregon product, which rank sixth in the NFL.

Rushing yards

RB Austin Ekeler: 356 rushing yards

When you think of the Chargers’ run game, only one name comes to mind: Ekeler. He’s the Bolts’ number one guy when it comes to gaining yards on the ground.

Receiving yards

WR Mike Williams: 498 receiving yards

In his new role as the ‘X’ receiver in offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi’s system, Williams has looked like a completely different player. Veteran Keenan Allen isn’t far behind, earning 419 of his own yards.

Touchdowns

RB Austin Ekeler: 7 touchdowns

Ekeler is a versatile skill player who makes an impact through the air just as he does on the ground. He has three receiving and four rushing touchdowns. The Chargers have a total of 19 offensive touchdowns this season.

Tackles

S Derwin James Jr.: 50 tackles

James is one of the most dynamic defensive players, and it would be an understatement to call him just a safety. He’s responsible for playing five different positions in Staley’s scheme, where he constantly lives around the football.

Tackles for loss

LB Kyzir White and LB Drue Tranquill: 3 tackles for loss

White and Tranquill have been crucial components for the defense. With their play speed, burst, and instincts, the duo has impacted the pass and the run. It’s clear from these numbers that the two have a knack for head-hunting downhill.

Sacks

DE Joey Bosa: 3.5 sacks

It is no secret that Bosa is among the top pass rushers in the NFL. The three-time Pro Bowl poses a threat to any offensive tackle he goes up against.

Interceptions

LB Kyzir White and CB Asante Samuel Jr.: 2 interceptions

Samuel, the first-year corner, has impressed early on. It is no surprise that he has among the leaders in this category, considering he came out of college known for his ball skills. White’s pair of interceptions were one of the very few highlights from last Sunday’s beatdown to the Ravens.
