Charges dismissed against Clara City man accused of having sexual contact with a child

— Two felony charges have been dismissed against a Clara City man who was accused of having sexual contact with a child.

Assistant Chippewa County Attorney Christopher Reisdorfer filed a dismissal of complaint July 22 in Chippewa County District Court for the felony charges against Matthew Richard Regnier, 36.

Regnier had been charged in January with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct for sexual penetration with a minor.

According to court documents, the complaint was dismissed because the prosecuting attorney was likely unable to meet the burden of proof at trial.

Regnier was accused in the criminal complaint of having sexual contact with a young girl in 2021, beginning when she was 9 years old and continuing after she had turned 10.
