These charity license plates let you take Newport County with you no matter where you are

Rhode Island's new standard license plate design isn't exactly the most eye-catching, but there are plenty of opportunities to make a statement with your vehicle.

If you want to display your love for Newport County there are plenty of options to consider as long as you love lighthouses. By purchasing these plates some of the cost will also be sent to the supporting organization, meaning you'll be helping to preserve the county's landmarks.

Some of these plates are available now and can be ordered through the Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles, while others are taking orders to reach the minimum for production.

Here's a look at what's available with a Newport County theme.

The Rose Island Lighthouse & Fort Hamilton Trust is accepting preorders for their special edition plates that display the lighthouse and part of Rose Island with a pair of sailboats sailing past, with the Newport Pell Bridge in the background.

This is one of the newest plates to become available in the state and requires an initial order of 600 before the DMV can begin producing the plates.

The plates also include a secret message. The sail numbers – 18 and 70 – on the Shields sailboats in the foreground of the lighthouse represent the year the light was first lit in the lighthouse, 1870.

Not technically in Newport County, this plate, which is in active circulation, supports the lighthouse sitting on its own island just to the north of the Jamestown Bridge.

The plate displays the lighthouse to the left of the design with birds flying around and two people fishing from a boat.

Anyone interested in this plate should take note that it can only fit five characters.
