Charity run at Sussex County Community College will benefit veterans

Sussex County Community College and American Legion Post 86 are hosting a “Boots on the Ground” 5K Walk/Run around the SCCC campus on April 13.

The run begins at 10 a.m. and is aimed at raising awareness of veterans issues as well as community engagement. Participants can register online at https://runsignup.com/Race/NJ/Newton/BootsOnTheGroundCharityFunwalkrun5K.

The Legion post and college believe veterans transitioning back to civilian life appreciate the support of a welcoming community. The $30 entrance fee for community members and $20 for veterans and SCCC students will go to providing educational resources and economic support for veterans.

The race consists of both a 5K run and a fun walk on a 3.1 mile course around the campus perimeter. A charity walk will be a mile shorter along the same course. The perimeter route offers scenic views of the greater Newton area.

Further information on the event can be obtained by contacting SCCC Veteran SCO Dave Haislip at dhaislip@sussex.edu.
