Charleroi lifts lockdown after reports of gun unfounded

Charleroi Area School District was temporarily on lockdown Thursday morning as administration investigated reports of a gun on school property.

Administrators were told by a middle school student during homeroom that he overheard a conversation that a female student had a gun in her backpack. No weapon was seen, but students were held in locked classrooms while the school was searched, according to Superintendent Edward Zelich.

Working with local police and the school resource officer, administration determined the threat was unfounded and the lockdown was lifted by 11:20 a.m. Students returned to their regularly scheduled classes.
