Charles Davis’ first mock draft has Bucs taking Georgia tackle

Mock draft season will continue for another month until the NFL draft, and one of the latest ones from NFL.com has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers taking a player not often mocked to them.

NFL’s Charles Davis released his first mock draft last week, and it has the Bucs taking Georgia offensive tackle Broderick Jones. Jones typically gets drafted in mocks before the Bucs can nab him, but he slides to No. 19 in Davis’ eyes. Here is what Davis said about the pick:

The Bucs need an offensive tackle after parting ways with Donovan Smith. Jones will help protect whoever wins the job to succeed Tom Brady.

The Draft Network has Jones as the No. 1 offensive tackle on the board and the No. 7 prospect overall with a first-round grade. Their profile on Jones praises his athleticism and finishing ability but is weary of his limited starts at the college level. Tampa Bay would certainly be interested, as Jones has the benefit of being a left tackle — this way, the team would not have to move Tristan Wirfs to the opposite side of the line.

Mocks seem to be high on the Bucs grabbing SEC talent, as others have the team taking Tennessee tackle Darnell Wright, Alabama safety Brian Branch and Kentucky quarterback Will Levis.
