CHARLEVOIX — Charlevoix County has three ballot proposals for voters in the upcoming Aug. 2 primary election.

Transit millage renewal  

This proposal will permit the County of Charlevoix to restore the .25 mill, previously approved by the electors for the purpose of providing funds for the operation of the County Transit System. If approved and levied in its entirety, it is estimated that the .25 mill would raise an estimated $591,389 for the county in the first year of collection.

Ballot language:

Shall the tax limitation on the amount of general ad valorem taxes which may be imposed on the taxable property in Charlevoix County, State of Michigan, be renewed at 0.25 mills ($0.25 per $1000 of taxable value) for a period of four (4) years 2022 through 2025, inclusive, for the purpose of providing funds for the operation of the County Transit System?

Parks millage renewal 

This proposal will permit the County of Charlevoix to restore the .15 mill, previously approved by the electors for the purpose of providing funds for the operation of county parks and funding the county program to improve other parks within the County. If approved and levied in its entirety, it is estimated that the .15 mill would raise an estimated $354,833 for the county in the first year of collection.

Ballot language:

Shall the tax limitation on the amount of general ad valorem taxes which may be imposed on taxable property in Charlevoix County, State of Michigan, be renewed at .15 mills ($0.15 per $1,000.00 of taxable value) for a period of four (4) years 2022 through 2025 inclusive, for the purpose of providing funds for the operation and capital improvements of the county’s parks and for funding the county program to improve other parks within the county.

Veterans millage renewal  

This proposal will permit the County of Charlevoix to restore the .1 mill, previously approved by the electors for the purpose of providing funds for the operation of the County Veterans Affairs Department. If approved and levied in its entirety, it is estimated that the .1 mill would raise an estimated $236,555 for the county in the first year of collection

Ballot language:

Shall the tax limitation on the amount of general ad valorem taxes which may be imposed on taxable property in Charlevoix County, State of Michigan, be renewed at .1 mill ($.10 per $1,000.00 of taxable value) for a period of four (4) years 2022 through 2025 inclusive, for the purpose of authorizing Charlevoix County to equip, operate, maintain, to provide monetary support and assistance services to veterans through the County of Charlevoix Veterans Affairs department?
