CHARLEVOIX — Artwork from area 11th and 12th grade students will be on display at the Charlevoix Circle of Arts from Jan. 27 to Feb. 25 as part of the annual Spotlight on Innovation exhibit.

According to the exhibit organizers, Spotlight on Innovation highlights budding young artists, creative problem solvers, freethinkers, makers and creators of the future. Participating high schools this year include Boyne City, Boyne Falls, Charlevoix and East Jordan.

Students, teachers and community members are invited to attend the exhibit, which is sponsored by Blick Art Materials and Petoskey Plastics.

“A representative from Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University will be reviewing student works and awarding scholarships. In addition, Charlevoix Circle of Arts provides prizes for first, second, third place and honorable mention; these awards will be judged by local community members: Nancy Suzor of Elements Gallery and artist Edith Pair,” said Laura Kelly, exhibit coordinator.

A new prize that the Charlevoix Circle of Arts is establishing this year is the Todd Warner Student Innovation Award, created in memory of Charlevoix artist Todd Warner, who passed away in November 2022. In addition to being a renowned artist, Warner was a founding member of the Circle of Arts, served on the board of directors, and helped coordinate and participate in many exhibits and programs — his favorite being the annual student show.

Donations to the Circle of Arts made in memory of Todd Warner will fund this award now and in future years. To contribute online, visit www.charlevoixcircle.org/donate-support, or call (231) 547-3554.

During the Spotlight on Innovation exhibit, the Charlevoix Circle of Arts will host free Youth Lab Classes geared toward area students, as well as provide free Take & Make children’s art kits for visitors in the gallery. Kendall College of Art and Design will also be conducting portfolio reviews for students at the Circle of Arts by appointment on Saturday, Jan. 28.
