MCBAIN — The Charlevoix girls’ soccer team has already shown this season that they’ll be a formidable foe within the Lake Michigan Conference.

Between Friday and Saturday, the Rayders proved they’ll be just the same away from the LMC.

Welcoming in Kingsley Friday, Charlevoix came away with a 6-0 victory, before then heading to McBain Saturday, where they earned an overall Comet Cup title in the McBain Northern Michigan Christian tourney.

On Saturday, Charlevoix earned a 2-1 shootout victory against Leland, then pulled in a 5-0 victory over McBain NMC to stay without a loss on the season.

In the opener, the Rayders and Leland headed to overtime and eventually a shootout knotted at 1-1.

Mikayla Sharrow, Claire Scholten, Lena Sytsma-Reed and Ginny Morbidelli all scored, while Addison Boop came through with the key stops to earn the victory. Boop made six saves total in the game.

The regulation goal for the Rayders also came off the leg of Sharrow.

In the second game of the day, Karlee Eaton scored a hat-trick for the Rayders, then Sharrow added a pair.

“We came out with better energy in the second game and played much better soccer than in our first match,” Charlevoix coach Pete Scholten said. “Our passing was less rushed and we were able to put together combinations that led to quality chances.”

Eaton, Ava Boss, Scholten, Kylee Rice, Sytsma-Reed and Boop all added assists in game two and Boop made an additional seven saves.

Against Kingsley on Friday, it came as another game where a number of different players sent in scores, led by Sharrow and Rice with a pair. Eaton and Boss also each added one goal and Eaton had two assists and Sharrow, one.

All six scores for the Rayders came in the first half against the Stags, then a number of younger athletes saw the field throughout the second half.

Charlevoix (4-0-1) will next host Traverse City St. Francis on Monday, April 17.
