Charli XCX and Christine and the Queens Face Off in Fantastic Fashion

Their new video is a leather lover’s dream.

The last time Charli XCX appeared in a music video, she wore one of those instantly recognizable cyber dotted Jean Paul Gaultier bodysuits from the designer’s Fall 1995 collection (while she and Diplo rode astride dolphins, no less). That visual for the Spice Girls-sampled “Spicy” might have been a neon-hued, seapunk fantasy, but Charli’s new video takes things in a much darker direction: for “Gone,” her new song with Christine and the Queens from the British pop star’s upcoming album titled Charli, the two face off in much more cinematic, BDSM-influenced fashion.

At the start of the new video, Charli and Chris are each strapped to a white car with thick rope, and the two are appropriately wearing some intricate, bondage-inspired pieces. Charli softens up a Fleet Ilya leather corset with a sheer, long-sleeved Matilda Aberg dress, while Chris wears a custom black Nicolas Lecourt Mansion jacket with little else on underneath. They each climb atop the car and dance while the brightly lit studio lights dramatically shift, all while singing the song’s candid lyrics (the pre-chorus goes: “I feel so unstable, fucking hate these people/How they making me feel lately/They making me weird baby”). The leather corsets and bondage gear might seem a bit dramatic at first, but given the emotionally-charged subject matter, their high-octane pieces really do embellish the collaboration’s icy core.
