Charli XCX has given the EastEnders writers a shoutout for naming Lily Slater and Ricky Jr's baby after her.

In a scene from Tuesday night's (September 5) episode of the BBC soap, which has now gone viral online, Lily and Ricky revealed that they have decided to name their newborn daughter Charli Branning Slater – after popstar Charli XCX, not uncle Charlie Slater, who died in 2016.

It wasn't long before the 'Speed Drive' singer caught wind of the clip and responded to it on Twitter/X, writing: "Shout out my gays in the writers room!"

Responding to Charli's tweet, EastEnders story producer Kyri Zindilis wrote: "It’s a pleasure Miss XCX".

Since signing her first record deal in 2010, Charli XCX has released five studio albums and multiple hit singles, including her most recent song 'Speed Drive,' which was written for the Barbie soundtrack.

Earlier this year, it was announced that the singer will make her acting debut in an upcoming remake of the 1978 horror film Faces of Death alongside Stranger Things' Dacre Montgomery and Euphoria's Barbie Ferreira.

In the world of EastEnders, meanwhile, Theo Hawthorne was finally caught out while Lily was giving birth.

The stalker's months of lies and manipulation were exposed when he held Stacey captive while she was supposed to be with daughter Lily.

However, Eve and Martin thankfully arrived in time to stop Theo from harming Stacey, meaning she was able to rush to Lily's side to coach her through her delivery.
