Charli XCX says she unfollowed Rina Sawayama on Instagram over ‘personal disagreement’

Charli XCX broke her silence Wednesday amid speculations surrounding her unfollowing of Rina Sawayama on Instagram.

Driving the news: Rumors of a feud between the pop stars erupted after Charli unfollowed Sawayama on Instagram. Users suspected that it came as a result of Rina’s alleged public call-out of The 1975’s Matt Healy, who was involved earlier this year in a podcast that aired speculations on rapper Ice Spice’s ethnicity and mocked Chinese and Hawaiian accents.

"Tonight, this goes out to a white man that watches ‘Ghetto Gaggers’ and mocks Asian people on a podcast. He also owns my masters. I’ve had enough!" Sawayama said during a show in England in June.

Charli’s current boyfriend, George Daniel, is The 1975’s drummer and “a longtime friend” of Healy’s, according to Billboard. This connection apparently led fans to speculate on why Charli unfollowed Sawayama.

What Charli XCX is saying: The alleged feud became trending on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday. As speculations poured in, Charli took to the platform to address the matter.

“Look – this all got a bit crazy – me and Rina spoke about things on the phone just now. My unfollowing (which happened a couple of weeks ago) was over a personal disagreement between friends which we’ve now spoken about,” wrote Charli before encouraging fans to stream “Beg For You,” a song she collaborated with Sawayama on last year.
