1. Charlotte activist sues CMPD officer for defamation and calling them ‘anarchist’

A law student and activist has sued a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer for defamation, saying the incident resulted in them being punished with a higher bond in another state and being banned from the University of North Carolina’s campus.

Jamie Marsicano, a Charlotte Uprising activist and North Carolina law student, says CMPD Maj. Brad Koch defamed them after Georgia arrest.

2. This South End Charlotte restaurant known for its prix fixe dinner is closing soon.

The Dunavant is closing.

The South End staple known for its signature steaks, bottomless truffle fries and creative seasonal drink menu, announced late Tuesday it plans to close the Charlotte restaurant permanently in early September. Its last meal service will be brunch on Sept. 3, Labor Day weekend.

And yes, I am sad about that.

3. Former Yankees great Bobby Richardson opens up on Mantle, Maris and why he retired at 31

Former New York Yankees second baseman Bobby Richardson on Monday, April 3, 2023. During Richardson’s career with the Yankees, he won five Gold Gloves, appeared in eight all-star games and won the World Series MVP in 1960 despite the team’s losing to the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also played in three World Series that the Yankees won. After his career ended, he became a college baseball coach with the University of South Carolina, Coastal Carolina and Liberty University.

Bobby Richardson, this week’s star of “Sports Legends of the Carolinas,” was a notable New York Yankee who never fully left his South Carolina hometown.

Richardson played for the Yankees for his entire major league career from 1955-1966, competing in seven World Series and winning three of them.
