Charlotte bride creates app to improve wedding guest experiences

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A Charlotte woman has created a platform to streamline all wedding communications for guests.

Its name is simple: The Weddings App.

“Let’s be real — no one actually brings the invitation to the wedding,” said app creator Kerry Krull. “So you’re either relying on your significant other to have all the details or you’re texting people about what time everything starts, so it’s great to have everything live in one place.”

Krull describes the app like a social media platform, but exclusively for invited guests. Couples can use The Wedding App as a hub for information like the schedule, menu, hotel information and more. From there, guests can create a profile to connect with one another before they arrive for the ceremony.

“Everyone invited to the wedding can see who each other is, where they’re from, what college they went to,” she described. “You can even see who’s single in case you’re trying to set your friends up, if they want.”

The app even has a direct messaging feature, and a way to share outfit inspiration.

Krull said The Wedding App is much more interactive than a traditional wedding website. One of the unique features is its ability to send guests push alerts.

“If a wedding planner needs to make an announcement that day of say, there is a rain delay or ‘please take a seat’ or ‘last call,’” she said.

Krull is a 2024 bride herself, planning to tie the knot in April. She got the idea for the app after attending one too many weddings where guests’ confusion threatened to dampen their excitement for the big day.

“I attended a wedding where there was no directional signage, and we were doing laps around the building trying to figure out where this ballroom was,” she described. “We finally saw a crowd that was nicely dressed, assumed they were with the wedding party, followed them to a hidden elevator behind a divider wall,” Krull said. “It was at that moment where I’m like, ‘alright, there needs to be better communication here.’”

She said the app can help wedding planners deal with one of the most frustrating parts of wedding prep: RSVPs. The app can send reminders to guests who have yet to submit their response.

“The reminder messages come from the app, not the couple directly, so people don’t have to walk on eggshells around the people if they can’t come,” Krull said.

Krull’s professional experience with event planning and software companies has helped her create the vision. The passion behind the project comes naturally.

“I’m really excited to have all of our friends and family together,” she said. “I just want everyone to get to know each other. I think that’s going to be a really fun experience for everyone.

The Wedding App is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
